When gorgeous Catherine Bailey meets sweet and handsome Lee Brightman it seems like a match made in heaven. He’s funny, smart, and seems to be head over heels for her. But slowly, things begin to take a turn for the worse. Lee becomes possessive; watching her every move and guessing her thoughts. But whenever she tries to end it with him, he switches to his good side, the side she originally fell in love with. When he turns violent, Catherine begins to fear for her sanity and her life. But has she waited too long? Is escape from her psychopath boyfriend even possible?
Wow. This book was utterly fantastic! I couldn’t believe how much Haynes kept me on the edge of my seat, trying to guess what was going to happen next. I absolutely loved the writing style. The narrative went back and forth between the past and present, eventually meeting in the middle and becoming one. It was riveting and thrilling and I almost had a stroke while reading it because I was so desperate to find out what happened next! Catherine was a great heroine. She had her own personality, yet was easy to relate to. It was amazing to see her overcome traumatic experiences and grow stronger. And experiencing the story with her you really get a good grasp on why people often stay in abusive relationships.
That was the other good part of this book, the positive aspect and message it portrayed. There are hundreds and hundreds of people who are in abusive relationships, whether it be physical, mental, or emotional. You are not alone. There is help. You don’t deserve to be treated that way!
